Cardy Home Usage of Cardy Specification Aim of the Cardy User Manual
Thank
you for your purchase, and welcome to the users of Cardy! Cardy is a
high-reliability, high-tech device capable of monitoring your heart
continuously, and provide you with information regarding the state of your heart
and your circulatory system. Cardy also stores this information.
Cardy
warns you immediately that you need medical attention if there is a change in
your ECG. Your doctor can later analyze the data on his or her computer by
downloading it from your Cardy. It is very easy to measure your ECG with Cardy.
It is also durable if you follow these simple
instructions:
Follow these simple steps
to take your own ECG measurement at home:
Each step will be
displayed on your Cardy (e.g. "Electrode #6 OK?"). You can respond by pressing a
key.
Take off your clothes from the waist
up.
Sit or lie down
comfortably.
Place
the 6 electrodes. Put the four limb electrodes as follows: two along your hips,
and two along your shoulders, one on the left and one on your right. Put the
fifth electrode on your left side below your left armpit so that it is midway
between your armpit and your elbow. Place the sixth electrode by the left side
of your chest bone at the same height as the 5th. Follow the illustration on the box,
or consult your doctor
about the proper placement of the electrodes. Do not place the limb electrodes
directly on a muscle. Make sure that the free flap of the electrode sticker
faces towards the middle of your body so that the clips are easy to
lock.
Connect the patient cable to
Cardy and the
pins to the electrodes. Connect the red pins to the right side electrodes, and the
black pins to the
left side electrodes.
Electrodes placed between your left nipple and the middle of the body constitute
right side. The patient cable indicates pairing of the electrodes by the length
of the lead: the longest leads go to the shoulder electrodes, while the shortest
leads should be connected to the electrodes along your hip (remember:
red to the right, black to the
left). The two middle length leads connect to the chest
electrodes.
Turn
.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
" CARDY F23
where the
number after "F" is the number of empty memory slots left for one ECG
measurement each
1st measurement<"
press "Yes" button
"CARDY 6 electrodes OK?"
when you see
this and the electrodes are in their place, press "Yes"
. Measurement begins and Cardy displays the
following:
" CARDY Relax, measuring!"
Relax. In 5
seconds the following message appears:
"CARDY ECG sampling"
Relax during
the measurement. Do not flex your muscles, do not breath too deep. Relax your
muscles and breathe normally. After the 16-second measurement the analysis takes
about another 10 seconds. After that, Cardy displays on of the following
results:
No change
There is no
need to visit your doctor unless other symptoms make this necessary.
Small change
Indicates a
small change in your ECG that your doctor should see within a couple of days.
Consult your doctor.
Big change!
Seek
immediate medical attention!
After
the ECG measurement, Cardy will offer a questionnaire regarding your symptoms
and your cardiological well being. Answer the questions one by one with yes or
no. Your answers will affect the analysis significantly, so make sure you answer
all the questions as thoroughly as you can!
Measurement Error
During
measurement Cardy checks the placement of the electrodes and the technical
quality of the ECG. If the electrodes are not connecting well during the
measurement, or the ECG is "noisy", an error message will appear after the ECG
sampling:
"MEAS. ERROR CODE: 8"
(Most
frequent error code is 8, but can be any number between 1 and 12.) Check the
placement of the electrodes, check if all the pins are in place, make sure that
you are not too near to an electronic device (such as a TV). If everything seems
in order, press any key, relax, and repeat the measurement.
Useful Tips
Switching off:
Cardy switches off automatically after 3 minutes of
inactivity (except for "Cardy Online" status that overrides automatic shutdown.)
In order to preserve the battery, you can manually switch off Cardy by answering
Replacing the battery:
A standard
alkali battery has an approx. 250 measurement lifetime. A 1000 mAh rechargeable
battery can power Cardy for about 120 measurements. After turning on your Cardy,
a message will appear if the battery is low.
Restarting Cardy (RESET):
Complex
electronic devices in Cardy are sensitive to external noise such as static
electricity, electromagnetic waves close to electronic devices. If for any of
these reasons Cardy should "freeze" - meaning that the display would not change
after 30 seconds, you can reset (reboot) Cardy as follows:
a. Press and hold
the switch on key
b. Press and release
the key
c. Release switch on
key
Capacity:
Cardy has a
memory capacity to hold 24 measurements. When the 23rd memory slot is full,
Cardy will warn you by displaying "Last". After this, Cardy will only store a
new measurement if there is a change in your ECG. "Full" will be displayed - you
can still take a measurement, but you cannot store the results. Please visit
your doctor who can download the measurements and free up your Cardy's
memory.
