Cardy Pet

CARDY® Pet is an animal oriented ECG. CARDY® Pet assist to diagnose cardiac abnormalities with animals the same way that we have been accustomed ourselves as fellow citizens. It is a PC-based intelligent ECG system is carrying out traditional, laboratory ECG tasks: measurement, analysis, data storing, comparing CARDY® Pet not just user friendly to the animals but for the practicing vetienary surgeons or animal lovers and to the environment. All records are stored digitally which can be viewed , compared on a computer screen at any time without a need of printing.Obviously it is fully compatible with the current trend of Telehealth technologies ( internet ,remote diagnostic ) The compact size suggest great flexibility in applications and portability.

Features:

·         No. of leads: 6 limbleads ( color coded ) ,CV5RL, CV6LU

·         Supply: AA type alkaline (2 pieces) or rechargeable battery

·         Calculated parameters:

·         --> Heart frequency, QRS width, PQ distance, QT distance.

·         --> 72 amplitudes PPL, PMI, Q, R1, R2, S, ST, TPL, TMI

·         --> 24 time parameters Q width, S width, QR distance in all leads

·         --> Actual parameter are compared to normal values, the parameters out of normal range are marked

Interpretation of an ECG

·         The inbuilt intelligence of the CARDY-Pet will assit you in the interpretation of the ECGs. . If you are still not confident in this interpretation, simply email a copy of the ECG tracings ( digital data or report format ) to a specialist clinique or your peer vetrineiran services providing ECG interpretation to determine necessary course of action.

·         Comparing ECG traces ( recorded over a time period ) will assit an indept interpretation both for a falling health as well improvement due to a training or healing medications.

·         Please visit the ECG Case studies for further help.

Dogs

·         As the majority of your examination will be on dogs you will be pleased to hear that the ECG traces and parameter calculation and interpretation has been focused with a maximum accuract to produce a quality ECG records. Changes in the ECG were studied on 11 dogs after ligating the descending branch of the left coronary artery. It is importance to maintain the front legs in a fixed position when recording the electrocardiogram.Changes in the position of the front limbs altered the Q and T Waves, and had a considerable effect on the ST interval. Changes in the ECG after myocardial infarction are most marked when the dog lies on the right side with the right front leg forward and the left back.

Horses and large animals.

·         ECG diagnozis usually performed whyle the animal in standing position. Usually a custom designed patient cable and attachement of the eltrodes required which is depend on the size of the animal and the accuracy required. To minimize the artefact and eletrical noizes standing the horse on a rubber insulating mat will help. The most common artefacts are due to movement, either of the horse or of the leads or clips. ECG on your horse will give you an idea about the size of his heart which is extremly important for a good racehorse ! Unlike in small animals, little information can be obtained about enlargement of the cardiac chamber(s) in horses. This is because simultaneous depolarisation of the entire ventricular myocardium via the extensive Purkinje system means that the amplitude of the QRS complex is not related to chamber size. Horses have long been known to be sensitive to their environments equally sensitive to the humans within that environment..

Cats

·         There are inherent difficulties recording ECG on a cat . They are not just difficult to get in a still position but you may find that the ECG complexes are very small and the unit may not display the heart rate. Causes are : fluid in the chest cavity, obesity or poor electrode contact

Heart rate

·         The CARDY-Pet will show the heart rate accuratly for the dog . For cats the displayed heart rate is inaccurate ( usually have to muliply by two ). Alternativly the heart rate is easily calculated by counting the number of complexes in a known period, for example counting the number within a 12 second interval and mulby 5.

Artefacts

·         Make sure to recognise artefacts so that they are not interpreted as abnormalities and, ideally, to be able to eliminate them. These artefacts are seen as sharp deflections which are haphazard but may occasionally resemble a QRS complex Any movement should be kept to a minimum.. Muscle tremor may produce a fine motion of the baseline of lower amplitude. Large undulations in the baseline may be caused by exaggerated respiratory motion. This may be less marked on a Y lead than a base-apex lead.

Water spary ( mist ) around the area of the eltrodes will not only create a better conductivity but will relax the animals ( dog, cat ) as well!

Interference from electrical mains hum is a common cause of artefact This is apparent as regular waves at a frequency of 50 Hz. Mains interference can be reduced by ensuring that all the leads have good electrical coupling .A neutral electrode should be used

Turning off other electrical appliances in the room, including fluorescent lights, also reduces the interference.

Battery-powered machines pick up more interference when they are running low on power. If electrical artefact is still present, switch the ECG filter on. This is specifically designed to cut out high-frequency noise such as AC interference.
